Palm Sunday was a Drag Show*

Palm Sunday, Sunday April 13th 10:30am

Drag is not just performance art for the sake of entertainment. RuPaul says, "drag is ... a parody of our society [a] sarcastic spoof on culture which allows us to laugh at ourselves, but in a way that is inclusive of everyone." When we come to Palm Sunday we're greeted with something very similar: Jesus and his friends sarcastically parodying a culture where Cesar is praised, celebrated, and elevated. They do it with a donkey instead of a warhorse; coats instead of money-littered streets; and palms instead of the accoutrements of a grand parade. Theirs is a satire and celebration running counter to societal expectations. How does the drag of Palm Sunday help us call out power-seeking culture even while we celebrate our existence in the midst of it?

A New Commandment: Showing Up With Love

Maundy Thursday, Thursday April 17th 6:30pm

What does it mean to show up - in times of fear, in times of love, in times of uncertainty? On this Holy Thursday, we will remember the night Jesus shared a final meal with his friends and gave them a “new commandment”: to love one another. As we, too, gather together at the table and break bread, we reflect on what it means to love and be loved, and on these two questions: What do we need? and, What can we give? Join us in offering and receiving the gifts of presence and love.

CRUCIFIXIONS: A Holy Friday Service at Church of the Village

Holy Friday, Friday April 18th 6:30pm

This Holy Friday, join us as we gather to confront the painful and complex realities of suffering. In this service, we will not romanticize or glorify pain, but instead, face it honestly and openly. Together, we will reflect on the weight of suffering—both in our world and in our own lives—and wrestle with how to move through it without being defined by it. How do we carry this burden? How do we find a way forward in the shadow of such anguish?

Come, engage in these questions as we sit in the shadow of the cross.
